Day 1: January 20, 2017

I chose not to watch the Inauguration.

I’ve been told that was unpatriotic of me. I’ve been told that I should “suck it up” because it is a historic event.

Why did I make this choice?

I chose not to watch the inauguration because attendance numbers are more important to Donald Trump than anything else. I choose to not feed his narcissism. There will be video, should I choose to view it later.

I downloaded an app to my iPhone: VoteSpotter

VoteSpotter is a mobile app that connects you to your government representatives so that you can find out how they voted, and tell them whether you agree or disagree with their vote.

Once downloaded, I signed up, entered my address information, and reviewed recent votes from my Senators and Representatives. For those I disagreed with, I sent email messages from within the app.

Of the emails, I did receive one message back from Senator Pat Toomey (R, PA) regarding the Affordable Care Act. No promise to replace at the time of repeal, but Senator Toomey has proposed reforms that will “allow individuals to buy insurance from anywhere in the United States,” end the “tax discrimination against those buying coverage in the individual market,” and ending “frivolous lawsuits that drive up medical costs for everyone.”  That doesn’t really help people with pre-existing conditions – wish he had addressed that.
