The theme of today’s post is HOPE.
On Friday, February 3rd, Judge James Robart (a federal judge in Seattle) temporarily halted the enforcement of Trump’s executive order on immigration. On Saturday, federal officials (e.g., Department of Homeland Security) were complying with the ruling, and airlines resumed boarding travelers covered under the ban.
On Sunday, February 5th, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit denied a request from the Justice Department to stay Judge Robart’s suspension.
Unsurprisingly, Trump took to Twitter to air his grievances and instill more fear:
The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!

(“so-called” judge? Really?)
What is our country coming to when a judge can halt a Homeland Security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into U.S.?

I have instructed Homeland Security to check people coming into our country VERY CAREFULLY. The courts are making the job very difficult!

In the meantime, one of the most popular shares of the weekend was a comic by Sousa & Machado showing Lady Justice protecting Lady Liberty from a flailing Trump.

And, let’s not forget Congressman Joaquin Castro, who took to Facebook and posted a video vowing to initiate an investigation into whether or not Trump “purposely exceeded his constitutional authority” by ordering Border Patrol to disregard court orders and continue to detain travelers (per Executive Order).

Before we go — let’s not forget the priceless skit on Saturday Night Live. Melissa McCarthy portrayed Press Secretary Sean Spicer in a hilarious – and spookily accurate – parody of Sean Spicer’s “take no prisoners” attitude. Moose-Lambs will live on forever.
